  1. I home school my 4 kids I am looking for some writing help for my 6, 9, and 12 year old. They are not very interested in writing and I want to help them at least like it a little!

For homeschooling, you might check out this book:
It has a lot of tips, writing ideas, etc.

You might think of getting them to try to write “fan fiction”? Even if they don’t watch TV, they might try to write a short story based on their own favorite books. If they like Winnie-the-Pooh, they could try to write a piece with those characters, having them go on a picnic, or whatever. The good thing is that they start with existing characters and a place, and just focus on writing a scene; it then draws on the kid’s own interest (what would THEY take on a picnic? what would they like to do on one?).

For poetry, I think The I Love to Write Book includes an exercise writing an “acrostic poem.”
Here’s a web piece on those. The nice thing is that acrostic poem exercises have a built-in structure, a prompt for each line.
So the kids could write a poem on winter, the lines starting with W-I-N-T-E-R.
